Mesa Developmental Services Day Habilitation Programs
MDS provides numerous programs to meet the needs of adults with developmental
disabilities who need support in non-work activities. Programs range from
providing primarily care and comfort, to the actual learning of new skills,
hobbies and leisure activities. The goal of MDS’ day programs is to provide
quality services for physical and cognitive enhancement, meaningful activities,
and learning environments that encourage improving life skills, community
interaction and social opportunities. As with all MDS programs, our goal is to
match the unique characteristics of the person receiving services to the program
best suited to meet those needs. We have been providing day program services for
over 25 years.
Program Categories:
Life Skills Training offers the opportunity to achieve personal growth in areas
such as the transition into adulthood, employment, relationships and talent
development. Therapy-based Programs are for the person who has physical as well
as developmental challenges. These programs offer both occupational therapy
intervention and therapeutic activities under the direction of licensed
occupational therapists. The high staff-to-client ratio ensures that adequate
support is provided to address each individual’s special needs. Community
Participation Programs offer leisure pursuits, community participation, and new
and appropriate social and behavior skills acquisition. This program is geared
for the person who can benefit from a variety of activities.
Intensive Supervision Program serves people with emotional challenges who need
help in expressing themselves in an appropriate manner. The goal to assist and
support the person in coping and expressing himself or herself in a safe and
dignified manner. Program staff, working in conjunction with therapy and medical
personnel, establishes a pattern of day activities that are routine and
predictable. Sedentary Program for those with challenges brought on by age or
physical limitation is a less active program combining comfort and stimulation.
A schedule of weekly activities lets the person know what to expect and look
forward to. Regardless of the event or activity, the goal is to get either
participation or appreciation by each person we serve.
